Submissions
This page is designed to help you ensure your submission is ready for and fits the scope of the journal.
Before submitting you should read over the guidelines here, then register an account (or login if you have an existing account).
Manuscripts should be submitted solely to this journal and should not have been published before, or that it is not in-press, or submitted elsewhere. In the case that a reprint is requested, author should secure rights and permission prior to submission to IJCP. All research needs to meet the ethical guidelines of its discipline, be original work and submission must be prepared for blind review (e.g., the complete text minus the title page, acknowledgements, and any running headers of author names, to allow blinded review). Authors are completely responsible for securing any copyrights necessary.
Published in North Carolina with an international scope, the International Journal of Critical Pedagogy publishes articles in English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, and Brazilian Portuguese with an acceptance rate of 15-20%. Read more here: About the Journal
Online, authors must identify the submission type: articles, book and multimedia reviews, multimedia, and creative work.
Length limits per type of submission:
Articles: .doc or .docx files, 6500 words or less including the references
Book and Multimedia reviews: .doc or .docx, 2000-3000 words
Multimedia: mov files, mpg4 files
Creative: jpeg, eps, or psd format only files, 300 dpi or higher
All submissions must include an abstract of 100-300 words and 3-5 keywords.
Style:
All submissions should follow the latest edition of APA. Documents must be in .doc or .docx format only. Please do not upload PDF files. The Taylor & Francis guidelines for APA and a link to the official APA manual are available at http://www.tandf.co.uk/journals/authors/style/reference/tf_APA.pdf . See referencing guidelines below.
Review Process:
Submissions undergo screening for adherence to formatting and guidelines, as well as internal editorial review and external double-blind peer review. Each article must be recommended for publication by two of the journal's qualified peer reviewers. The editorial team relies heavily on external reviews, though ultimately, acceptance for publication is the decision of the editorial team.
If the decision requires you to revise or resubmit your manuscript:
When you have completed your edits, please upload a new file to this submission. Ensure that any Track Changes are turned off and that the submission is still blinded for review.
In addition, upload a file in which you indicate the area of improvement along with a description of how you addressed each area.
Blinding:
To ensure anonymity in the review process, the blinded submission should not include authors' names. Self-citations and references should be removed from the article's main text, reference list, and notes. Information in the text that would identify the author should be deleted from the manuscript (e.g., text such as "my previous work," especially when accompanied by a self-citation, should be replaced with "blinded for review") and may be reinserted if accepted for publication. Information that could help identify any author (e.g., mention of any affiliation) should also be removed (e.g., "blinded for review" may be inserted in place of removed text). Citations and references should be blinded using "Author" and "citation blinded for review" realphabetized in the reference list. The author's name should be removed from the document. To ensure that this is done completely follow these instructions:
You can save a document without the names or initials of authors who are associated with the document.
Open a document that has been saved that you want to make anonymous.
For Word, click File, Info, Check for Updates, and then Inspect Document. For older versions of Word, click the Microsoft Office Button, point to Prepare.
Click Inspect.
Click Remove All next to Document Properties and Personal Information.
IMPORTANT - Do not click Remove All next to Comments, Revisions, Versions, and Annotations, which will permanently delete all of the comments from the document.
Click Reinspect, and then save the document.
When you reopen the document, all comments that appear in the document will appear without names or initials.
For Microsoft Word for Mac, click on Tools, Protect Document, and then click Remove personal information from this file on save. Protect Document is also included in the Review Tab in the Ribbon.
Submission Guidelines for Multimedia and Creative Work:
Submissions undergo screening for adherence to formatting and guidelines, as well as internal editorial review. Multimedia and creative work undergoes a juried review. Acceptance for publication is ultimately the decision of the editorial team with consultation of jury decisions.

Peer Review
Peer Review Process
This journal operates a double anonymous peer review policy.
Each article undergoes an initial screening by the editor. Then, if accepted at screening, is reviewed by at least two reviewers who are chosen from our database of over 100 experts in the field of critical pedagogy.
First, a reviewer must reply to the invitation email that was sent by the editor. Then, the reviewer must log in as a reviewer to the IJCP web site using their username and password.
The reviewer can then download and save the article to their computer. If a reviewer decides to make specific changes to the article, they should use the “track changes” function in Word.
Once the article has been read, an official review must be created. Also, the reviewer must make a recommendation regarding the publication of the article:
• Accept submission: The article should be accepted for publication by the IJCP. Minimal revisions are required by the author to ensure that the article is ready for publication.
• Revisions required: The article should be accepted for publication by the IJCP, but the author must first address several issues regarding its content and / or structure before it is ready for publication.
• Resubmit for review: The article needs substantial revision of its content and / or its structure and the article cannot be accepted for publication presently. However, because the article shows promise, the author should revise the entry and then resubmit it to the IJCP for consideration.*
• Decline submission: The article should not be accepted for publication. The article’s purpose, content, and / or use of research are not appropriate for the IJCP.
The reviewers’ decision, along with copies of their reviews, will be forwarded to the author as quickly as possible. We cannot guarantee how long the review process takes, but our reviewers and editors are committed to ensuring that the process goes as swiftly as possible.
*If an author is invited to resubmit an article for review, we ask that the author resubmits their piece within 3 months. We also ask that they include the original version of the article and the comments that were made regarding the revisions. Our policy is to make a final publication decision after one revision (of course, further work may also be requested to resolve any remaining issues).
IJCP Ethics and Malpractice Statement
Duties of Editors
Publication decisions
It is the editors' responsibility to decide which of the articles submitted to the journal should be published. The editor will consider reviewers' comments in making this decision.
Fair play
Editors and reviewers will evaluate manuscripts without regard to the authors' race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship, or political philosophy.
Confidentiality
The editor and any editorial staff will not disclose any information about a submitted manuscript to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, and potential reviewers, as appropriate.
Disclosure and conflicts of interest
The editors must not use any ideas or findings from unpublished manuscripts in their own research without the express written consent of the author.
Duties of Reviewers
Contribution to Editorial Decisions
Peer review assists the editor in making editorial decisions, and through the editorial communications with the author, may also assist the author in improving the paper.
Promptness
Any reviewer who feels unqualified to review the research reported in a manuscript or cannot do so in timely manner should excuse himself from the review process using the prompts provided on the journal website.
Confidentiality
Any manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential and not be shown to or discussed with others.
Standards of Objectivity
Reviewers should objectively express their views clearly with supporting arguments.
Acknowledgement of Sources
Reviewers should identify relevant published work that has not been cited by the authors and provide guidance for including that citation. A reviewer should also call to the editor's attention any substantial similarity or overlap between the manuscript under consideration and any other published paper of which they have personal knowledge.
Disclosure and Conflict of Interest
Information or ideas obtained through peer review must be kept confidential and not used for personal advantage. Reviewers should not consider manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest resulting from competitive, collaborative, or other relationships or connections with any of the authors, companies, or institutions connected to the papers.
Duties of Authors
Reporting standards
Authors of reports of original research should present an accurate account of the work performed as well as an objective discussion of its significance. Underlying data should be represented accurately in the paper. A paper should contain sufficient detail and references to permit others to replicate the work. Fraudulent or knowingly inaccurate statements constitute unethical behavior and are unacceptable.
Data Access and Retention
In some cases, authors could be asked to provide the raw data in connection with a paper for editorial review, and should be prepared to provide public access to the data, and should in any event be prepared to retain such data for a reasonable time after publication.
Originality and Plagiarism
The authors should ensure that they have written entirely original works, and that they have appropriately cited any work and/or words of others that they have used or quoted.
Multiple, Redundant or Concurrent Publication
An author should generally refrain from publishing manuscripts describing essentially the same research in more than one journal or primary publication. Submitting the same manuscript to more than one journal concurrently represents unethical publishing behavior and is unacceptable.
Acknowledgement of Sources
Authors should cite publications that have been influential in determining the nature of the reported work.
Authorship of the Paper
Authorship should be limited to those who have made a significant contribution to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the reported study. All those who have made significant contributions should be listed as co-authors. The corresponding author should ensure that all appropriate co-authors and no inappropriate co-authors are included on the paper, and that all co-authors have seen and approved the final version of the paper and have agreed to its submission for publication.
Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest
All authors should disclose in their manuscript any financial or other substantive conflict of interest that might be construed to influence the results or interpretation of their manuscript. All sources of financial support for the project should be disclosed.
Fundamental errors in published works
When an author discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in his/her own published work, it is the author’s obligation to promptly notify the journal editor or publisher and cooperate with the editor to retract or correct the paper.
